Rewards.

Still having a hard time figuring out what rewards I want that are not food-related. This is what I have so far. I haven't gotten below 200 because I can't even imagine that (though I *will* get there).

As of this morning, I'm 242.8. I was 242.2 on Saturday morning, but then proceeded to eat lots of delicious food and drink a few beers.

REWARDS
241.9 (Meeting goal on Beth's Journey Diet Bet) - mini-bag Cadbury mini-eggs (yes, I know, food is not a reward, I am not a dog, blah blah, but man have I been wanting these so DAMMIT I am making myself meet a goal before eating them)

240 - New hairbrush
230 - Pedicure
220 - Go to a baseball game
210 - Tickets to a musical locally
200 - Get hair professionally cut and colored

I just cannot think of anything else that isn't food or clothing related. Ugh. I don't want to break my arm trying to pat myself on the back, but I want to keep myself motivated too. Help?

  1. I tried rewards one time, but I failed miserably. I listed a mix of things: Sephora, Amazon, Starbucks and Target giftcards (because I like makeup, music/books, tea and stuff); iPod Nano, new shoes, new haircut, certain cds I wanted, new wardrobe when I met my goal weight.

It didn't work for me because I didn't think I should be rewarded for something I should already be doing. It also didn't work because I have a tendency to buy whatever I want, provided I have money (granted, I've bought nothing off my rewards list, with the exception of a book and some music).

I know you've also mentioned that you have that same mentality, so I'm curious to see if rewards will work for you. I'm still working on figuring out what works for me. Dietbet was doing a good job until I went on vacation.

    Good luck!

  2. Your list sounds great! I don't have any ideas specifically for you, but I'll tell you what's currently on my rewards list: a little herb garden in my kitchen, a writing workshop, a massage, and some books I want to read that I can't find anywhere at the library. I wanted to buy my domain name (check!) and have some of my clothes tailored. Plus there are always shows and things like that. I kind of try to rank all of these things and then gift them to myself one by one.

  3. Massage or facial? Those are fun. What about a small day trip?

I think you could also do something food related, like dinner at a fancy restaurant. It's not giving yourself permission to gorge, just permission to eat delicious things.
